LG Display announced today that it has presented the results of a study on the ergonomic conditions of gaming displays at "SID 2022", the world's largest display exhibition.

Researchers at LG Display, including Research Fellow Jang-Jin Yoo, analyzed which displays provide the optimal gaming experience by playing various genres of games with OLED, LCD, and flat and curved displays for gamers.

As a result, the research team revealed that the bendable OLED, which can bend and unfold the screen freely while maintaining the excellent picture quality and response speed of OLED, received the highest evaluation in response time, curvature (degree of curvature), and eye health.

The reaction time is the time it takes for the input signal of the graphic device to be displayed on the screen and the user perceives it with the eyes to operate the mouse or keyboard. In general, the shorter the reaction time, the higher the probability of winning the game.

The average response time of OLED was 0.05 seconds (50ms, millisec) faster than LCD.

The research team explained, "Considering that the reaction time is 0.01~0.02 seconds (10~20ms) faster when using a gaming mouse, etc., 0.05 seconds is a meaningful time that can determine the victory or defeat of a game."

Bendable OLED, which allows users to freely bend and unfold the screen when they want, was evaluated to provide the best picture quality in all genres of games.

It has been shown that OLED reduces eye strain during long gaming sessions and enhances the sense of immersion.

OLED TV panel emits 60% of blue light that is harmful to eyes compared to LCD, which is the lowest in the industry. Flicker, which causes headaches, does not appear.

LG Display is currently developing OLED panels for gaming, including bendable OLEDs. In the future, the company plans to promote collaboration with global gaming specialized brands.
