Korea Expressway Corporation (KEC) announced that it had signed a business agreement with the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH) and the Korea Institute of Robot and Convergence (KIRO) on May 31 to develop advanced equipment for highway maintenance.
This MOU aims to create a safer working environment by developing cutting-edge equipment to be applied to highway maintenance work sites together with KITECH, which supports the development of manufacturing technology for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and KIRO, which is in charge of research on core robot technologies.
The three organizations are planning to develop autonomous mobile hand signal robots equipped with lane recognition functions and equipment for installation and collection automation of work guide facilities to prevent collisions between moving vehicles and workers that occur at work sites.
An official from KEC said, "Through cooperation with the two organizations, we will strive to reduce the effort of workers and develop technology and equipment that can replace dangerous work."
