Woori Finance Information System (WFIS) aims to greatly contribute to bolstering Woori Group's competitiveness by offering top-quality IT service, a top manager of the company said.

"Secondly, we plan to push for total IT outsourcing of overseas subsidiaries of our group by expanding the business scope to global IT. Thirdly, we will offer tailor-made service suitable for management situation of relevant corporate customers," she said.

"Finally, we will create organizational culture to which all executives and staff members can contribute voluntarily and aggressively in order to improve customer's value further," said the top manager.

WFIS attained the ISO 20000 international certification in the IT operation sector in 2006 for the first time in the nation's financial industry in recognition of its global-level IT operation and management process.

"Through application, development, and separation of operation of advanced operational process, we could effectively manage and upgrade IT services such as service level management (SLA), guarantee of service continuity, prompt disposal of obstacles, and prevention of recurrence," she said.

ISO20000 refers to the internationally certified standard of IT service management (ITSM) enacted by International Standard Organization (ISO). It has been used by IT service organizations in the world as a model case for business management.

Acquisition of international certifications

"Along with the acquisition of ISO20000 on internalization and management of the operating business for the first time in Korea, WFIS obtained CNMI Level 4, a standard of management and improvement of development business, and ISO27001 related to construction of information protection and security system," said Kwon.

WFIS also received favorable appraisal from the ISO in a regular follow-up review that its ISO20000 level has been persistently improving in terms of process observation, output and quality activities.

"Following the acquisition of the Level 3 of CMMI in 2006, we succeeded in garnering the higher Level 4 of CMMI in April 2009," she explained.

CMMI, a model offered to enhance productivity and quality of organization developing software and IT systems, comprises of a total of five levels.

"By winning the Level 4 of CMMI, we can make quantitative measurement for process application and performance. We also obtained superiority in objective IT development and management ability by building a systematic management base and improving quality. Through persistent quality improvement activity, we plan to secure top-class quality ability," said the WFIS CEO.

WFIS also completed the conversion of the existing certification obtained in 2001 into ISO27001 by securing a global-level information protection management system about Internet banking.

"By acquiring the ISO27001 certification, we can prevent outflow of customers' information and data in advance and protect customers from various information infiltration risk factors such as outsiders' information hacking," she noted.

"To win the international certifications in software development and security, we separated development and operation in 2005 and realized specialization by function. Along with this, we applied advanced IT process and governing structure for effective relations between each functions. At the same time, we succeeded in internalizing process and strengthening ability through the 6 sigma activity introduced in 2006 and the OneDo innovation drive recently propelled by the group," she said.

Since June 2010, WFIS has been pushing ahead with the SMART project to grow into a financial IT company armed with global competitiveness.

"We are making a strong push for the SMART project to convert method of          thinking and working and realize the world's IT best practice through re-establishment of corporate growth strategy direction," she said.

"For the project, we have launched seven task forces to deal with business in the seven sectors _ the process sector to improve process efficiency and transparency and realize world best process, the HR sector to improve professionalism and efficiency of human resources, the program development and operation sector, the organizational culture sector to achieve happy workplace culture, the external business strategy sector, the overseas service sector for development of overseas solution and construction of network, and the clouding computing sector," she explained.
