LG Uplus (LG U+) announced today that it will expand its ultra-precision positioning technology to self-driving and smart ports.
The U+ ultra-precision positioning service is a solution that can check the location information of a mobile terminal in centimeter units, and has been provided to customers since March of this year.
The existing Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) method known as GPS uses only satellite information, so when passing through the ionosphere and troposphere, an error of up to several tens of meters occurs due to propagation delay.
However, the ultra-precise positioning service uses Real Time Kinematic (RTK) technology to calibrate it in centimeter units.
According to the results of the location information industry survey in 2021, the size of the location information industry is expected to grow 16.3% this year to 3.55 trillion won from 2.627.9 trillion won last year.
LG U+ started to establish its own reference station for the first time in a South Korean telecommunication company in November of last year, and as of the end of June, a total of 57 stations were established.
It provides nationwide coverage based on a total of 132 reference stations in conjunction with 75 reference stations of the National Geographic Information Service.
LG U+ plans to expand its service coverage to self-driving and smart ports in the third quarter of this year.
ACELAB, which successfully demonstrated 5G self-driving on public roads for the first time in Korea, and Autonomous a2z, which performed self-driving special zone in Sejong City, have adopted U+ ultra-precise positioning service.
LG U+ plans to continue expanding the application of U+ ultra-precision positioning technology to self-driving technology development innovation projects, "Level 4 self-driving architecture-based computing platform commercialization technology development".
Self-driving is directly related to customer safety, so technology to determine the exact location of a vehicle is important.
U+ ultra-precision positioning technology enables customers to obtain more precise location by fusion of ultra-precision location information and in-vehicle sensor information.
