Samsung Engineering announced today that it has signed a contract with Sarawak Shell, a subsidiary of global energy company Shell, for the “Malaysia Shell Onshore Gas Plant (OGP) for Rosmari Marjoram Project” worth about 890 billion won (US$ 680 million) on July 12.
Samsung Engineering will carry out Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC), which is expected to be completed in 2025.
The plant, to be built in Bintulu, Sarawak State, eastern Malaysia, is capable of processing 800 million cubic feet (ft³) of gas per day.
Through this plant, impurities such as sulfur will be removed from the gas extracted from the deep sea gas field, and the purified gas will be sent to a nearby LNG liquefaction facility to be used as a raw material.
Shell is one of the International Oil Companies (IOC) that invests and develops extensively not only in its own country but also around the world.
Samsung Engineering has previously won orders for the Dos Bocas oil refinery plant in Mexico and the Sarawak Methanol plant in Malaysia through a FEED to EPC strategy.
Samsung Engineering plans to successfully carry out projects by applying innovative technologies such as automation and modularization as well as experience in carrying out more than 10 projects in Malaysia.
"Based on our high level of project understanding, rich regional and product experience, and partnership with the client, we have won the EPC main business following FEED," said a company official. "By successfully carrying out this project, we will solidify the trust of the client and further strengthen our position in Southeast Asia."
