On October 18, Hyundai Steel announced that its "4-legged walking robot (SPOT)" won the grand prize as a high-risk work alternative robot case in the safety and health best practice contest hosted by worldsteel.

worldsteel gave meaning to Hyundai Steel that it applied smart safety devices using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to on-site hazardous work, greatly increasing the possibility of protecting human life from accident risk factors.

Hyundai Steel is conducting field application tests such as opening and closing of oxygen gas valves and daily inspection of hazardous areas using SPOT.

In the future, when an emergency situation occurs, it is expected that the robot will be immediately put into the hazardous area to prevent secondary disasters such as fire and explosion, thereby promoting the safety of workers.

In addition, we plan to increase the field utilization of the robot by continuously attaching gas sensors and cameras that are combined with IoT technology and AI technology.

The company plans to enable the robot to routinely inspect gas-dangerous areas and detect dangerous situations such as fires and chemical leaks early, and to inspect enclosed areas where there is a risk of gas poisoning.

SPOT is equipped with a state-of-the-art camera that can take thermal imaging, 30x zoom, 360˚ rotation, and 170˚ panoramic image, so that it is possible to accurately understand the situation in the accident risk area.
