SK Chairman Chey Tae-won suggested flexibility and diversity beyond stereotypes as a solution for a better future for mankind.

Chairman Chey attended the "Tokyo Forum 2022" on December 1st and said in his opening speech, "We all need to focus on designing a safer, more prosperous future."

He continued, "I am confident that this forum, with the theme of dialogue between philosophy and science, will be a platform that provides new ideas for solving various global problems."

The Tokyo Forum is an international forum held by the Chey Institute for Advanced Studies together with the University of Tokyo since 2019. It was held online for the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but this year it will be held online and offline simultaneously.

Chairman Chey first raised the question of whether science and technology could be a new opportunity to address global risks.

"In the current economic system created 200 years ago, it is difficult to measure social values such as pandemics and climate change and create an environment that can promote such activities," said Chairman Chey. "We must ensure that social values can be fully internalized through science and technology."

He went on to suggest, “One way is to create a structure that redistributes wealth within the country by establishing a negative tax that compensates the government for solving social problems.”

Chairman Chey also consulted on how to educate the younger generation for a better future, saying, “It is important to build a new education system that reflects the thoughts and imaginations of the younger generation, rather than the existing education system.”

"In finding global solutions, we must have an open mind and learn to accept differences," He added. "It is necessary to think outside the box and find practical solutions based on flexibility and diversity."

Meanwhile, on December 1, the first day of the Tokyo Forum, Chairman Chey gave an opening speech and former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon delivered a keynote speech. Several world-renowned scholars attend the forum as a panel to discuss the dialogue between philosophy and science.
