The divorce ruling of Cho Hyun-ah, 48, former vice president of Korean Air, has been confirmed. According to legal circles on Dec. 9, former Vice President Cho and her ex-spouse Park did not submit an appeal to the Seoul Family Court's Family Affairs Department 4 (chief judge Seo Hyung-joo) until the previous day.
Under the Family Litigation Act, the deadline for appeal is 14 days from the date of delivery of the ruling, and former Vice President Cho and Park received the ruling at 0 o'clock on Nov. 25 and the deadline for appeal expired as of 0 o'clock on the same day.
Former Vice President Cho married Park, a plastic surgeon, in October 2010 and had twin children, but their marriage later broke up.
Park filed a lawsuit in April 2018, eight years after their marriage, asking for a divorce. He also demanded custody of his children, claiming that former Vice President Cho verbally abused and assaulted him and abused his twin children.
Former Vice President Cho filed a countersuit in June 2019 demanding divorce and alimony, refuting that their marriage became difficult due to Park’s alcoholism and that their child's abuse was not true.
The first trial court accepted some of the claims from both sides and forced former Vice President Cho to pay Park 1.33 billion won in property division. In addition, former Vice President Cho was designated as a caregiver for her children, requiring Park to pay 1.2 million won per child every month.
Apart from the divorce suit, Park sued former Vice President Cho for special injuries and child abuse in February 2019. In April 2020, the court ruled former Vice President Cho's injury charges guilty and issued a summary order of 3 million in fines.
