Researchers at the Center for Diagnostics and Telemedicine have systematized the findings of the scientific trial. The monograph “Experiment on the use of Artificial Intelligence technologies in the field of computer vision for the analysis of medical images and further application in the healthcare system” discusses test methodologies and artificial intelligence usage in Radiology.

Moscow hospitals have been conducting experiments on the use of computer vision in medicine since 2019. Doctors began to see the advantages of artificial intelligence as early as the beginning of 2020 at the height of the coronavirus pandemic. Artificial Intelligence had a 94 % accuracy rate when determining the lesion in COVID-19 pneumonia. Currently, more than 40 artificial intelligence services in 17 modalities have analyzed over 8 million images during almost three years. Artificial intelligence is a helpful tool; for instance, it can identify the symptoms of an aortic aneurysm in patients, assisting in the early detection of a dangerous pathology.

The experiment on the introduction of computer vision technology in medicine was initiated jointly by the Moscow Social Development Complex and the Center for Diagnostics and Telemedicine Moscow Health Department. And this year, outside the experiment, the capital will be the first in Russia to introduce a special fee under compulsory medical insurance for the analysis of mammography studies using artificial intelligence systems.

When conducting large-scale preventive studies using radiation diagnostic methods, it is practical to use computer vision technologies in the city of Moscow’s healthcare system. The trained algorithm can assess screening results, spot suspicious discoveries, and send them for analysis by a licensed doctor. This is the target screening model of the future, which can vitally lower mortality from malignant tumors and have a significant social impact.

The use of computer vision in healthcare is expanding daily and becoming a routine in identifying and treating patients. Medical stuff can make more accurate diagnoses and recommend more effective treatments thanks to the use of computer vision, which also shortens the time spent on diagnostics. The monograph is intended for healthcare administrators, researchers, and medical personnel, as well as algorithm developers and staff members at educational institutions.

Diagnostics and Telemedicine Center
Diagnostics and Telemedicine Center was established in 1996. It is a top scientific and telemedicine organization under the Moscow Health Department. It specializes in AI implementation in medicine, researches radiation diagnostics, manages departments in medical organizations, including the telemedicine approach.
