Doosan Enerbility strengthens its competitiveness in the offshore wind power business by joining hands with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE).

Doosan Enerbility announced on February 7 that it had signed a framework agreement with SGRE, the global leader in offshore wind power, for strategic cooperation in the South Korean offshore wind power market.

The signing ceremony for the basic agreement held in Hamburg, Germany, was attended by officials from both companies, including Park Hong-wook, head of the Power Services BG of Doosan Enerbility, and Mark Becker, CEO of SGRE's offshore wind power division.

The two companies will cooperate in technology in various fields such as ultra-large offshore wind power nacelle assembly, construction, and O&M service.

In addition, the two companies will discover and nurture South Korean parts makers to revitalize South Korea's offshore wind power ecosystem.

“We will actively promote participation in the South Korean offshore wind power market and revitalize the ecosystem in cooperation with SGRE," said Park Hong-wook, head of the Power Service BG of Doosan Enerbility. "We expect Doosan to greatly enhance its competitiveness across the offshore wind power business by upgrading its products and diversifying its models.”

“SGRE aims to introduce world-leading offshore wind technology to South Korea, such as innovative offshore direct drive nacelle technology,” said Mark Becker, CEO of SGRE's offshore wind division. "Through this partnership, we expect to promote the provision of green energy as well as job creation and additional investment.”

Meanwhile, Doosan Enerbility, which started the wind power business in 2005, has the largest supply of offshore wind power in Korea. Last year, it obtained international certification for an 8MW class offshore wind turbine.
