SK Telecom (SKT) announced on March 1 that it has won two awards at the 2023 GSMA Global Mobile Awards (GLOMO Awards) in the categories of ‘Best Mobile Innovation for Cities’ and ‘Best Use of Mobile for Accessibility & Inclusion.’
These awards are highly respected within the mobile industry and are judged by over 200 independent experts, analysts, journalists, mobile operator representatives, and CTOs.
The ‘Best Mobile Innovation for Cities’ award was given to SKT for its Location Intelligent Solution, ‘LITMUS,’ which helps to solve various urban challenges in areas such as transportation, security, and citizen services.
By analyzing users’ de-identified location data, LITMUS reduces traffic congestion by supplying real-time traffic volume to both the Intelligent Traffic System and smart interchange system.
It also links people's real-time location information to traffic light data, helping prevent accidents at road intersections. SKT's LITMUS has created social value worth KRW 40 billion in 2022 by applying it to diverse city projects.
SKT also won the ‘Best Use of Mobile for Accessibility & Inclusion’ award, in partnership with LBStech and SAPEON Korea, for their ‘G-EYE PLUS Powered by Visual Localization and Mapping Technology (VLAM).’
This innovative solution is the world's first VLAM-based high-precision location-based navigation service, providing route guidance to blind and low vision people based on a more accurate estimate of their location.
The service pinpoints the user's current location within a 1-meter margin of error and leads them right up to the entrance of their destinations. SKT plans to develop G-EYE Plus Powered by VLAM into an integrated barrier-free navigation platform to enable the transportation vulnerable to travel independently without any help.
SKT has won awards in the ‘Best Use of Mobile for Accessibility & Inclusion’ category for four consecutive years, highlighting their efforts to create an inclusive society through the use of advanced AI technologies.
