The National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (NongHyup) announced on March 6 that it held a welcome event for Issifu Mubarack of Ghana, the 2023 recipient of the 'NongHyup Invitation to Study Abroad in Developing Countries' at its headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul.
Nominated by the Ghana Cooperative Confederation (GCC), the international student will study Korean for one year at Yonsei University's Korean Language Institute and then take specialized courses in agriculture and cooperatives for three years at Nonghyup University.
Since 2015, Nonghyup has been inviting outstanding students from cooperatives in developing countries such as Vietnam, Kenya, Nepal, and Uganda to foster cooperative professionals and share Korean agricultural excellence and Nonghyup's development experience to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
At the welcome ceremony, Chairman Lee Sung-hee shared his views on the current state of agriculture in developing countries and the role of cooperatives with Mr. Isifou Mubarak, and delivered a laptop to him with the intention of encouraging him to achieve his goals by sharing the development experience of Nonghyup and agriculture.
"We hope that you will grow into a global cooperative leader by experiencing Korea's best practices such as digital agriculture to adapt to the rapidly changing international agricultural environment," said Chairman Lee Sung-hee. "We also hope that you will serve as a civilian diplomat to revitalize exchanges between KNA and Ghanaian agricultural cooperatives through your study abroad experience in Korea.
