LS Electric, a global provider of energy solutions, has announced its participation in two major smart energy exhibitions simultaneously in Korea and Japan.

The exhibitions are "InterBattery 2023," taking place at COEX in Seoul, and "Tokyo Smart Grid Expo 2023," held at Big Sight in Tokyo, Japan. The exhibitions run for three days from March 15 to 17.

At the exhibitions, LS Electric is unveiling a range of strategic solutions, including its Solid State Transformer (SST)-based electric vehicle charging platform.

The platform is being presented under the theme "everything about energy" and is a transformative technology that converts DC-AC simultaneously as power semiconductors are applied. Unlike general transformers, the SST does not require the installation of a separate power converter.

LS Electric's SST-based electric vehicle charging platform has the ability to measure and collect power consumption data at application sites. Through this, users can predict power consumption by analyzing ESS charge/discharge and charger power consumption data. An hourly rate system can be applied, and the amount of charge can be controlled, which is expected to increase the efficiency and stability of the electric energy market.

LS Electric is also introducing its next-generation modular Energy Storage System (ESS) solution, the EV Relay, DC power equipment total solution, and global smart energy business strategy. The Modular Scalable String Platform (MSSP) is a next-generation ESS platform that targets the global industrial ESS market. The platform is characterized by modularizing the Power Electronic Building Block (PEBB), a key part of power conversion, in units of 200kW, enabling smart independent operation.

LS Electric is planning to focus on overseas markets such as Japan, North America, and Europe, where demand for ESS is expanding, with next-generation ESS at the forefront. The global ESS market size is expected to reach $13.05 billion by 2027, with about 302GWh being supplied through 35% average annual growth by 2030.

LS Electric is accelerating its expansion into the global market, particularly with Japan as a bridgehead. The Japanese ESS market is expected to show rapid growth as the government's declaration of decarbonization 2050 and large-scale new and renewable energy supply projects for RE100 are being carried out one after another.

As a result, the scale of ESS installation for system stability will expand by more than 40% by 2050, and the installed capacity of Behind The Meter (BTM) ESS, which is applied to energy-consuming workplaces such as buildings and factories, will reach about 69GWh.

LS Electric was the first Korean company to win two orders among 13 ESS construction projects for system stability ordered by the Japanese government last year and completed installation in Kyushu and Hokkaido.

“We expect that global customers will be able to once again confirm our unique innovative technology and business capabilities in the smart energy field through this exhibition," said an official from LS Electric. “We will overcome the carbon-neutral trade barrier and preoccupy the global market.”
