On March 15th, Korean Air and YG Entertainment signed an agreement to promote Korean culture on a global scale.
The signing ceremony was held at the Korean Air headquarters and attended by Korean Air Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Kenneth Chang and YG Co-CEO Hwang Bo Kyung.
The agreement aims to further promote K-culture and its brand value by utilizing Korean Air's extensive global network and YG's pioneering role in K-pop culture. To kick off the partnership, Korean Air will become the official airline sponsor for YG artist Blackpink's world tour.
As part of the deal, the airline will offer discounted plane tickets and waive additional baggage fees for artists and staff participating in the tour until August of this year. In return, YG will provide concert tickets, signed CDs, and posters for Korean Air's SKYPASS members. Additionally, passengers on Korean Air flights will be greeted with a special welcome message from Blackpink.
The partnership between Korean Air and YG aims to seek innovative methods to collaborate and create synergy by leveraging the strengths of the two companies.
"Although the aviation and entertainment sectors have different characteristics, we expect Korean Air's solid global network and YG's insight in K-pop content to be leveraged to create synergy," said the airline’s CMO, Kenneth Chang.
Korean Air is actively promoting Korean culture by expanding its in-flight entertainment options to include more Korean dramas, entertainment shows, and K-pop. The airline has also recently introduced new traditional Korean meal options, including braised mackerel, spicy pork wraps, and acorn jelly, as well as Korean-style vegan options.
