Lotte Wellfood (formerly Lotte Confectionery) joined the global RE100 to achieve carbon neutrality on the 10th.
Renewable Electricity 100 (RE100) is a voluntary plan to cover 100% of the electricity used by companies with renewable energy such as wind power and solar power. It is an international campaign initiated by the multinational non-profit organization The Climate Group in collaboration with the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).
The subscription targets are companies that consume more than 100GWh of electricity annually, and representative global companies that have achieved RE100 include Apple and Google.
In the case of Lotte Wellfood, according to the goal disclosed in 2021 at the Lotte Group level, it declared the achievement of RE100 and carbon neutrality by 2040.
“Joining RE100 this time is the first step for Lotte Wellfood to be reborn as a sustainable global general food company," said Lee Chang-yeop, CEO of Lotte Wellfood. "We will actively promote carbon neutrality with a great sense of responsibility.”
Lotte Wellfood is currently operating solar power generation at eight production plants, including Cheonan Plant, Hoengseong Plant, and Gimcheon Plant, and plans to expand this in the future. In addition, it has been practicing energy saving through the introduction of facilities such as steam driven compressors and waste heat recovery.
An official from Lotte Well Food said, “We are in the process of building renewable energy generation facilities within the business site, and plan to achieve RE100 by procuring renewable energy in various ways, such as purchasing a power purchase agreement (PPA) and renewable energy supply certificate (REC).” revealed
“Lotte Wellfood is leading the way in climate action by committing to using 100% renewable electricity by 2040,” said Sam Kimmins, CEO of the RE100 Initiative at The Climate Group. "This is meaningful in that it sends a strong message that renewable energy makes business sense.”
