WAE Technologies, a world technology and engineering services company, launched Elysia, its Battery Intelligence software offering on April 20th. This software is designed to revolutionize the way we think about batteries, unlocking significant improvements in the life, safety, usable energy, power, and rapid charging times of any battery system.

For the first time, Elysia brings game-changing battery insight, management, and optimization of batteries to the mass market, from the automotive, commercial vehicle and e-mobility sectors to stationary energy storage and beyond, unleashing the potential of the most fundamental component of an electric vehicle: the battery.

Elysia is the first mass-market software offering from WAE, combining a suite of innovations that can unlock the true potential of any battery. Elysia draws on WAE’s unrivaled experience in high-performance batteries, which has seen the company push the limits of performance, longevity, and charging in the harshest environments on the planet - with software playing a vital role.

Elysia features state-of-the-art embedded and cloud-based products which provide customers with unprecedented access to battery insights and the ability to manage, optimize and enhance performance across the battery’s entire lifecycle. This includes not only in the vehicle but also in ‘second life’ applications such as stationary grid storage.

The improved insight and control provided by Elysia reduces the need to oversize or overengineer battery systems, enabling them to be lighter, cheaper, and more sustainable. Elysia's core offering is based on two key products:

Elysia Embedded: a suite of state-of-the-art battery management algorithms that run locally on the Battery Management System (BMS). This suite of algorithms helps OEMs to increase vehicle range, enable faster charging, and maximize battery power, delivering the best possible performance to customers without compromising safety or battery life.

The Elysia Embedded algorithms offer customers the ability to unleash untapped potential through intelligent ‘physics-informed’ models, reducing the need for extensive data from testing and limits specified by cell suppliers. This approach has been designed to run on standard low-cost chips as typically found in mass-market battery management systems. In applications to date, this has shown the ability to bring up to a 30% increase in battery life and a 10% potential increase in battery range, enabling dramatically reduced fast charge times and higher peak power output when compared to traditional battery management algorithms.

Elysia Cloud Platform: a cloud-based system that uses proprietary digital twin technology. It helps OEMs, fleet owners, and battery asset financiers turn data into actionable insights, enabling them to forecast and extend battery life, enhance safety, and protect warranty and residual values. By providing a complete picture of the battery’s state of health, it brings much-needed transparency, while enabling accurate verification of degradation and in-life fault-finding, offering the potential to revolutionize the second-life battery market.

Elysia is built upon a unique combination of AI and data science, fused with electrochemical modeling expertise, grounded in unrivaled real-world battery engineering and development experience.

According to Elysia Commercial Lead, Joe Jones, "The battery in any electric vehicle of any kind represents the single most valuable system by far. A better understanding of battery systems will transform how we manage them, in order to realize their full potential."

WAE Technologies CEO, Craig Wilson, said: “For more than a decade now, WAE has led the world in the design, development, and manufacture of the most advanced electric vehicle batteries ever seen. We have been the sole supplier to major electrified motorsport series, extending batteries to their limits in the heat of competition on the racetrack. We’ve also pushed the boundaries with the electrification of hypercar
