[London] eTukTuk, an electric vehicle and charging station ecosystem, has partnered with Capital Maharaja Group (CMG), the leading privately held conglomerate in Sri Lanka, to introduce sustainable transportation powered by blockchain in Sri Lanka. The partnership aims to expand the eTukTuk network throughout Sri Lanka, starting with Colombo, the capital city. With over 1.2 million registered internal combustion engine (ICE) TukTuks on the roads, each emitting more carbon than a typical car, the eTukTuk network aims to provide affordable, accessible, and sustainable mass transportation solutions to drivers and passengers in the city.
The partnership with CMG will allow for the strategic expansion of the eTukTuk network throughout Sri Lanka, enabling the facilitation of local partnerships on the ground to better serve the needs of the country and transition away from traditional carbon-intensive transportation networks. Niro Cooke, Group Director on the Main Board at CMG, said that eTukTuk’s holistic solution is what attracted them to the opportunity. It is not just a hardware solution, but an all-encompassing, sustainable e-mobility ecosystem. Cooke added that eTukTuk has understood the key economic drivers in a market like Sri Lanka and acknowledged the importance of local manufacturing and assembly against fully built-up imports. Sri Lanka, in this instance, is the perfect test market for a solution of this nature.
Seth Ward, Chief Information Officer at eTukTuk, said that eTukTuk is uniquely placed to enhance transportation systems across the globe. Ward added that forging a strong partnership with the Capital Maharaja Group will ensure that they have first-hand expertise and deeper insight into the Sri Lankan markets to thrive and successfully launch on the ground later this year. eTukTuk is proud to have a partner with the caliber of CMG on board, and it speaks volumes to the potential of the network in Sri Lanka in the coming years.
Using blockchain technology, eTukTuk plans to onboard millions of digital identities as part of the network to enable and empower drivers to diversify their income and earning opportunities in a sustainable manner. The launch of the platform in Colombo is expected later this year. The partnership between eTukTuk and CMG is expected to contribute significantly to the sustainable transportation industry in Sri Lanka, providing affordable and accessible transportation options while reducing carbon emissions.
