In 2017, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) and Orano, a multinational nuclear fuel cycle company in France, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate and gain prior experience in dismantling nuclear power plants, managing radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel, and exchanging information.
Since then, the two companies have strengthened their partnership by revising the existing MOU, based on trust, technology, and manpower exchanges.
As a result of the MOU revision, both KHNP and Orano have agreed to further enhance their collaborative projects in developing professionals within the field of nuclear power plant post-management.
In particular, KHNP has decided to dispatch its technical personnel, who specialize in the dismantling of nuclear power plants, to overseas sites to gain hands-on experience. Additionally, the company will invite professional instructors to train its employees and provide technical advice to experts.
"The aim for the MOU revision is to enhance the expertise of Korean technicians and ultimately upgrade dismantling technology," said Kwon Won-taek, the head of KHNP's nuclear power plant post-management division. "Through this partnership, both KHNP and Orano hope to strengthen their capabilities in managing nuclear power plants and related projects, ultimately contributing to the development of the global nuclear power industry."
