On May 3, SK C&C announced that an international academic journal has published a paper proving the effectiveness of their AI brain hemorrhage imaging medical solution, called Medical Insight+ Brain Hemorrhage.
The thesis, titled "Deep learning based automatic detection algorithm for acute intracranial haemorrhage: a pivotal randomized clinical trial", was written by Professor Yoon Tae-jin of the Department of Radiology at Seoul National University Hospital and Professor Jin-wook Choi of the Department of Radiology at Ajou University Hospital as lead authors, with the contributions of 7 research faculty members.
The paper was published in "Digital Medicine", Nature Partner Journals (npj), which is a journal specializing in artificial intelligence medicine of Nature Research, a world-renowned scientific journal.
Medical Insight+ Brain Hemorrhage is an AI cerebral hemorrhage diagnostic aid solution that analyzes brain CT images within seconds and immediately informs medical staff of the location and abnormalities of bleeding. In this study, the researchers proved that non-radiologists can obtain the same diagnostic accuracy as radiologists with the help of an AI cerebral hemorrhage diagnosis assistant solution.
The researchers analyzed the effect of AI on the diagnosis of cerebral hemorrhage by dividing the medical staff into non-radiologists, radiologists, and neurohead and neck radiologist groups by major.
It was found that the diagnostic accuracy was improved when AI helped in all groups, with non-radiologists receiving the greatest help. It was also confirmed that Medical Insight+ Brain Hemorrhage consistently analyzes images from various CT devices used by medical institutions with a high level of accuracy.
When the AI self-diagnosis performance of Medical Insight+ Brain Hemorrhage was verified for about 50,000 patient data built by the Korea Institute for Intelligence and Information Society Promotion, high diagnostic accuracy of 98 to 99% in all GE, Philips, Siemens, and Toshiba CT devices was shown.
"The thesis shows that AI solutions can help on-site emergency room medical staff accurately diagnose cerebral hemorrhage, especially in a medical environment where it is difficult for radiologists to respond 24 hours a day," said SK C&C Healthcare Group Head Yoon Dong-joon. "SK C&C will expand clinical applications so that Medical Insight+ Brain Hemorrhage can be used not only in Korea but also abroad.
Meanwhile, Medical Insight+ Brain Hemorrhage was the first AI cerebral hemorrhage diagnosis medical device in Korea in 2021 to be approved as a Class 3 medical device item by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, and clinical trials for U.S. FDA approval are also underway. Currently, the solution has been supplied to more than 30 major medical institutions across the country, including Seoul, Gyeonggi, Incheon, and Daegu.
