National ITC Australia in Sydney developed a chip implant, named Implantable Neuro Sensing and Stimulation (INS2), to offer relief to those suffering from chronic pain. Other implantable devices such as this have been seen on the market; however, the device is smaller than the rest which gives more promise that pain will be stopped at its source.
The size of the implant is approximately one-fourth of a pencil's eraser, because of the size, it is able to get closer to the spine or other areas in which nerve signals need to be blocked. The conditions that can be treated are anything from chronic body pains to migraines to nerve damage conditions. It works by sending electric pulses up to 10 volts to intercept pain signals.
.
In order for it to operate, it runs on an internal computer processor that contains a small battery and can be charged wirelessly. Its wireless feature makes it unlike any other device on the market, in this field. People are truly able to continue life comfortably as there are no obstruction, limitations or inconveniences as there can be with other devices.
The INS2 targets different pain levels which makes it an option for all types of conditions. In addition to pain, National ITC foresees that it could be beneficial for those who have epilepsy or Parkinson's disease or a number of other neurological disorders by cutting back the symptoms related to each.
