LG CNS, a company specializing in digital transformation (DX), has developed a 5G-specialized network (eUm 5G) core solution called "LG CNS 5G Core" using their own technology.

The core solution is a software that serves as the backbone of a 5G network, managing authentication, interconnection, traffic control, and other related functions for terminals used in the 5G specialized network.

The 5G specialized network is a network dedicated to companies that can implement 5G communication networks within a specific range, such as factories and buildings. It stands out for its ultra-high speed, ultra-low latency, ultra-connectivity, and excellent security, as it uses a dedicated frequency rather than a general mobile communication network.

LG CNS designed the 5G core solution to be used in a cloud environment, where it can maintain optimal service quality by quickly increasing processing capacity even when facing sudden increases in traffic.

This infrastructure is built to reduce maintenance costs compared to the existing in-house built-in method. LG CNS is collaborating with a domestic Cloud Service Provider (CSP) to conduct a 5G Core Proof of Concept (PoC) in a cloud environment, with plans to offer 5G specialized network services to the global market.

LG CNS applied network slicing technology to LG CNS 5G Core. Network slicing is a technique that divides a network to create multiple independent virtual networks, allowing LG CNS to provide customized services to customers with different business requirements.

For instance, the company can provide autonomous driving services to the automobile industry and intelligent CCTV services to the smart city industry by offering reliable real-time communication with little delay. Because the network is divided into multiple virtual networks, customers can utilize eUm 5G cost-effectively.

LG CNS also increased service scalability using Network Exposure Function (NEF) technology. NEF is a technology that allows various service providers to use the location data of a terminal.

For example, a manufacturing company using LG CNS 5G Core can identify the detailed location of a sorting robot in a distribution center with NEF to improve the accuracy of sorting goods and create a collaborative flow with other robots.

Furthermore, LG CNS 5G Core offers several advantages in terms of data processing speed and compatibility. The data processing speed based on a single core exceeds 100 Gbps, which is higher than the industry average of 10 Gbps to 40 Gbps.

Developed with the latest 5G standard (3GPP Release 16) of The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), Mobile Broadband Standard, it has excellent communication compatibility with terminals and base stations around the world.

Prior to commercialization of the core solution, LG CNS introduced LG CNS 5G Core to Kyunghee University in February and is reinforcing research on eUm 5G technology.

Last year, the company conducted eUm 5G technology verification for AI vision inspection and unmanned transport robot operation for global electronic parts companies. eUm 5G was also installed at the Sejong Government Complex in South Korea to ensure stable operation of self-driving patrol robots, AI face recognition entrance gates, and environmental sensors.
