Google is set to showcase its latest developments in artificial intelligence (AI) at its annual developer conference, including the launch of a new general-use large language model (LLM) called PaLM 2. The model has been operating under the internal codename "Unified Language Model" and includes over 100 languages. Google will also unveil advancements to Bard and Search with "generative experiences" that are said to help people reach their full potential. The updates come as competition in the AI sector continues to ramp up, with Microsoft using its investment in OpenAI to bolster its Bing search engine.
Google will also showcase its new foldable phone, the Pixel Fold, which features a durable hinge and is marketed as water-resistant and pocket-sized. Additionally, the company plans to expand its Workspace AI collaborator, including discussing template generation in Sheets and image generation in its Slides and Meet products. Last month, Google announced that its medical LLM, called "Med-PaLM 2", can answer medical exam questions at an "expert doctor level" and is accurate 85% of the time.
In March of this year, the company launched an API for PaLM, along with a number of AI enterprise tools that help businesses generate text, images, code, videos, audio, and more from simple natural language prompts. Google has been working on a series of more powerful Bard models, and internally, the company has developed a multi-modal version called "Multi-Bard," which uses a larger data set and solves complex math and coding programs. Google also plans on expanding its "Workspace AI collaborator," including discussing template generation in Sheets and image generation in its Slides and Meet products.
