KCC, a global application materials chemical company, announced on May 12 that it participated in "Power Conversion Intelligent Motion (PCIM) Europe 2023", the world's largest power semiconductor-related exhibition held annually in Germany.

The company introduced its electric vehicle driving parts, organic/inorganic materials for batteries, fire spread prevention materials for EVs, and Momentive silicon materials, a global silicon company.

One of the products that attracted attention was the Active Metal Brazing (AMB) ceramic substrate, a representative inorganic material product with excellent mechanical strength and heat resistance. This substrate is coated with an active metal between a copper circuit and ceramic to increase adhesion, making it suitable for high-performance electric vehicle industry applications. KCC's AMB ceramic substrate has already been verified for the properties and reliability required by many global power module customers.

At the exhibition, KCC exhibited various inorganic material products, such as Direct Copper Bonding (DCB) ceramic substrates applicable to industrial power module semiconductors and ceramic materials for electric components such as EV relays. Among KCC's organic material products, the Epoxy Molding Compound (EMC), a material that seals semiconductors to protect them from heat, moisture, and external shocks, drew attention. Various EMC products such as high-reliability EMC for power modules, high-heat dissipation EMC, and low-stress EMC designed to enable stable operation under harsh conditions were also introduced.

KCC also introduced fire diffusion prevention materials for EVs to prevent fire accidents caused by thermal explosions of electric vehicle batteries. Two fire prevention solutions using ceramic fiber and fireproof paint drew attention from electric vehicle and battery makers.

As the electric vehicle market grows, KCC predicts that attempts to achieve high performance and high efficiency of electric vehicles will be made in the global electric vehicle supply chain. Additionally, the power industry and power semiconductor upgrade needs for new markets such as renewable energy, space, and aviation are required together.

KCC prepared for the exhibition with Momentive, a global silicone company acquired by KCC, and exhibited thermal interface materials (TIM), which are silicon encapsulants for power module semiconductors, adhesives, coating materials, and heat dissipation solutions.
