Korean Air has recently achieved the prestigious IATA's Center of Excellence for Independent Validators (CEIV) Lithium Batteries certification.
To commemorate this achievement, a special event was organized at the Grand Hyatt Incheon on May 25, attended by representatives from Korean Air, Incheon International Airport Corporation, and IATA.
The CEIV Lithium Batteries certification, introduced in 2021, sets forth comprehensive standards to enhance competence and quality management in the handling and transportation of lithium battery shipments across the supply chain.
To meet the program's standards, experts conduct a thorough evaluation of all transportation processes and procedures, assessing over 240 standardized audit criteria.
In December 2022, Korean Air joined a working group led by Incheon International Airport Corporation, collaborating with various stakeholders including forwarders and operators in the domestic air cargo sector.
This joint effort aimed to prepare for the CEIV Lithium Batteries certification. As a result, all stakeholders in the working group successfully obtained the certification in the first half of 2023.
Lithium battery transportation constitutes more than 10% of Korean Air's total air cargo volume, and this percentage is expected to grow due to the rising consumer demand for smartphones, handheld electronic devices, and electric vehicles.
The airline believes that the IATA CEIV certification will further enhance its reputation as a provider of safe and reliable air cargo services.
