KT SAT, the sole satellite service company in South Korea with its own satellites, actively participated in SatelliteAsia 2023, the largest satellite technology trade show in the Asia Pacific region. The event took place at the Singapore Expo from June 7th to 9th.

KT SAT showcased its competitive services, solutions, and business strategy at their exhibition booth, aiming to become a Multi-Orbit satellite operator. A significant portion of the booth was dedicated to highlighting the MEO (Medium Earth Orbit) satellite service provided by Mangata Networks. KT SAT has secured MEO capacity through a partnership with Mangata Networks, which is a crucial resource for their Multi-Orbit business endeavors.

As part of its Multi-Orbit business strategy, KT SAT made an investment in Mangata Networks, a company that offers end-to-end cloud-based solutions powered by a global satellite and terrestrial network.

Following this investment, KT SAT also signed a contract to purchase MEO capacity from Mangata, enabling them to meet the diverse needs of customers with Multi-Orbit networks, including their own GEO capacity. The contract specifies a target service date of 2026 and covers the Southern East and East Asia regions, including countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, and India.

"We are building a multi-orbit constellation of HEO (highly elliptical orbit) and MEO (medium Earth orbit) satellites and a terrestrial grid of edge data centers to provide seamless connectivity with cloud and IoT services," said Brian Holz, CEO of Mangata Networks. "We are delighted to be partnering with KT SAT to provide MEO capacity to Southern East and East Asia which are significant regions in the industry expecting it to play a key part in our growth strategy. "

In addition to the Multi-Orbit services, KT SAT showcased its next-generation satellite solutions at the event. These included Edge Computing over Satellite and Multi-beam Terminal, both aligned with their business strategy.

Edge Computing over Satellite involves processing data closer to its source, enabling faster and more efficient processing, reduced satellite backhaul bandwidth, and minimized latency. This solution is applicable to various satellite networks, including GEO, MEO, and LEO.

The Multi-beam Terminal, an integrated satellite terminal with antenna and modem, enables simultaneous transmission and reception operations on GEO and other NGSO satellites through multi-beam radiation. KT SAT has applied its own-developed Hybrid solution to the terminal, enabling a combined speed of multiple networks and seamless handover between them.

In addition to their Multi-Orbit services, KT SAT plans to further expand its GEO business domain. Nelco, a leading satellite communication service provider in India and a Tata group company, has shown interest in KT SAT's GEO service expansion.

KT SAT and Nelco recently formed a partnership to introduce KT SAT's GEO service in India using KORASAT-7. At SatelliteAsia 2023, both companies discussed various strategies to bring enhanced connectivity value to India and strengthen their partnership.

"We are endeavoring to raise service competitiveness and customer satisfaction by establishing fundamentals to be a Multi-Orbit service provider with Multi-orbit satellite portfolio and high quality solutions," said Kyungmin Daivd Song, CEO of KT SAT.
