KT and Samsung Seoul Hospital have joined forces to drive digital transformation in the medical industry and expand healthcare services globally.
In a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed on June 18, KT and Samsung Seoul Hospital agreed to collaborate on the global expansion of the K-medical system, digital healthcare for patient follow-up care, and research on medical AI leveraging big data.
Under the MOU, the two companies will work together to establish a health examination center in Hanoi, Vietnam, as part of KT's upcoming plans. Samsung Seoul Hospital will provide its expertise through local institutional advisory and consulting, while also facilitating the training of local medical staff.
The collaboration will encompass various aspects, including the management of severely ill patients with abnormal findings, requests for second opinions, and response coordination.
Furthermore, KT and Samsung Medical Center will conduct joint research on AI applications in prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and management. This research aims to assist medical professionals in decision-making and enhance work efficiency. KT will focus on algorithm development, while Samsung Seoul Hospital will contribute by identifying medical AI tasks and enhancing the algorithms.
“I am delighted to create an opportunity to create synergies in both medical and IT fields where Korea can compete with the world and lead," said Samsung Medical Center Planning Director Professor Kim Hee-chul. "We will do our best so that Korea can present standards for the future medical environment.”
"I am confident that KT's Vietnam healthcare case will become a successful model for K-medical exports if the two companies' core capabilities and accumulated know-how are combined through this partnership," said Vice President Song Jae-ho, head of KT's AI/DX convergence business division.
