Hanwha Aerospace and Vertical Aerospace have announced a collaboration agreement at the 2023 Paris Air Show.
The memorandum of agreement (MoA) signifies their joint effort in developing, testing, and manufacturing the tilting and blade system for Vertical Aerospace's electric aircraft, the VX4. This partnership builds upon their successful collaboration last year, which focused on EMA (Electro-Mechanical Actuation) development.
The tilting system is a crucial component of Vertical Aerospace's electric Vertical Take Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft, enabling it to execute its unique flight mode. Meanwhile, the blade system plays a significant role in enhancing stability and overall performance.
“This strategic agreement serves as a meaningful step towards expanding and diversifying the capabilities we can offer to a variety of customers” said Jae-Il Son, CEO and President of Hanwha Aerospace. “Working with Vertical Aerospace, our joint team will help develop state-of-the art electric aircraft system and technology.”
“Hanwha Aerospace is a fantastic partner for Vertical. Hanwha shares our vision for pioneering electric flight; they are world leaders in electro mechanical and actuation systems. The expansion of our partnership is a natural next step, building on the well-established cooperation between our two companies.” said Stephen Fitzpatrick, CEO and Founder of Vertical Space.
Vertical Aerospace aims to achieve certification for the VX4 by 2026 and has already received orders for over 1400 aircraft from global air carriers.
