SK Chemicals announced on July 10 that it has published a sustainability report containing ESG activities for the year 2022.
The report focuses on the company's "Eco-Transition" strategy and highlights its achievements and commitment to sustainable growth in three key areas: transitioning to eco-friendly business practices, strengthening climate change response systems, and enhancing AI technology and research and development capabilities.
One significant aspect of the report is the emphasis on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). LCA plays a crucial role in the company's eco-friendly transition by obtaining international certification, which quantifies greenhouse gas reduction efforts and serves as the foundation for sustainable practices.
SK Chemicals has obtained LCA certification for 79 product grades across nine groups, accounting for 84% of its projected sales for this year. The company aims to achieve LCA certification for all its products by 2025.
By doing so, SK Chemicals plans to generate additional carbon credits worth approximately KRW 190 billion over the next five years (starting from 2026). These credits will be attributed to products that utilize recycled raw materials produced through depolymerization technology.
Furthermore, SK Chemicals is actively working towards its net-zero goal by 2040. The company is making strides in this direction by converting some of its boiler fuel to hydrogen at the Ulsan plant and implementing solar power generation facilities at the Cheongju plant.
Last year, SK Chemicals made a commitment to human rights management and developed a system that aligns with international guidelines. The company continues to prioritize human rights in its operations and is dedicated to upholding these principles.
