Samsung Electronics has introduced a new OLED TV featuring a panel from LG Display in the United States.
The 83-inch class OLED 4K TV (model 83S90C) is now available for purchase on Samsung Electronics America's official website and in local retail stores, priced at $5,399.99.
This television utilizes LG Display's white OLED (WOLED) panel, which currently holds the exclusive production rights for 83-inch displays. By expanding their OLED TV lineup to include an 83-inch model alongside the existing 55, 65, and 77-inch options, Samsung Electronics has made its alliance with LG Display more apparent.
Samsung Electronics stated that the introduction of the 83-inch OLED TV aims to offer consumers a wider range of choices. The collaboration between Samsung Electronics and LG Display gained traction earlier this year as Samsung re-entered the OLED TV market after a decade-long hiatus.
During LG Display's first-quarter performance conference call, the company expressed openness to collaborating with Samsung Electronics, emphasizing their willingness to work closely with any customer who recognizes the value of OLED and can create synergies in the future.
According to Omdia, a market research firm, Samsung Electronics currently holds a mere 6.1% market share in the OLED TV segment, significantly trailing behind LG Electronics (54.5%) and Sony (26.1%).
