Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) held the completion ceremony of the "2023 International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Certified Nuclear Decommissioning Professional Training Course" at Kepco International Nuclear Graduate School (KINGS) on July 21.
The training course, which is jointly certified by KHNP and the IAEA, was held from July 17 to 21 for 20 participants from the KHNP and the nuclear decommissioning industry.
The training was conducted by eight selected domestic and international experts on the safety and radiological characterization of nuclear power plant decommissioning.
"Radiological characterization is a basic prerequisite for successful nuclear decommissioning, and we hope that the training helped strengthen the capabilities of the participants," said Dr. Lilian Del Risco of the IAEA.
"We will continue to actively support the graduates to grow into experts who can lead not only the decommissioning of nuclear power plants in South Korea but also the global nuclear power plant decommissioning market," said Dr. Won-Taek Kwon, Head of the Nuclear Post-Decommissioning Management Division at KHNP. "We will also strive to improve the capacity of the nuclear decommissioning industry ecosystem and secure specialized technologies."
