For the first time in Korea, LG Chem has received certification from global testing organization TUV Rheinland for its product carbon footprint calculation methodology, strengthening the competitiveness of its customers' low-carbon products.
LG Chem announced today that it held a certificate presentation ceremony with TUV Rheinland on July 24 at LG Twin Tower in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, Korea.
LG Chem's product carbon footprint calculation method is in accordance with the international standard (ISO 14067:2018) and is the first case in Korea to be certified by TUV Rheinland.
LG Chem's product carbon footprint calculation method includes the mandatory criteria set forth in the international standard, including data collection and calculation methods and impact assessment methods.
TUV Rheinland is a global testing organization that conducts carbon footprint certification by evaluating greenhouse gas emissions generated in the entire process of production, distribution, use, and disposal of products according to international standards.
With this certification, LG Chem has secured the credibility of the carbon footprint calculation process for its products, including battery materials and eco-friendly materials, which it has calculated in-house since 2021.
As the demand for low-carbon products from global customers is increasing, LG Chem plans to apply the certification method to the Carbon footprint Analysis & Management Platform (CAMP), an automated system for calculating product carbon footprints, and actively pursue the market for low-carbon and eco-friendly products.
By 2025, LG Chem plans to apply the product carbon footprint system to products produced at all its domestic and overseas plants and continuously upgrade it.
