LG U+ announced on Aug. 7 that it will expand its robotics business to logistics after serving and contribute to the automation of logistics center operations.

Based on its existing experience in the smart factory business, LG U+'s logistics robot business aims to realize practical logistics automation by supplying a stable communication network, and to increase the ease of use by developing a robot control platform.

As part of this, LG U+ signed a business agreement with Yujin Robot, a company specializing in autonomous driving solutions, to cooperate in the logistics robot business.

Yujin Robot has implemented everything related to autonomous robots, including 3D lidar sensors, autonomous driving and functional safety controllers, standard and customized platforms, and system integration (SI), with its own technology.

Yujin Robot's autonomous robot "GoCart," which can carry up to 500 kg of weight, was the first logistics robot in Korea and the third in the world to be certified to "ISO13482," a robot safety standard, in 2021.

LG U+ decided that it was necessary to launch differentiated logistics robots and logistics automation services within a short period of time in order to settle down early in the newly entering logistics robot market, so it promoted a business agreement with Yujin Robot, which has accumulated related technologies and use cases for decades.

With this collaboration, LG U+ will build a stable robot usage environment based on its 5G communication network and platform, while Yujin Robot will provide high-quality logistics robots and business operation know-how in the market.

LG U+, which has built up its business capabilities in the serving robot market over the past year, plans to expand its presence in the robot industry, including delivery and guidance, following its entry into the logistics robot business.

Meanwhile, LG LG Electronics entered the serving robot market in September last year with the "CLOi" serving robot.
