LG Display announced today that it has received a "Bosch Global Supplier Award."
The company received the award in the "Raw Materials and Components" category, demonstrating its unrivaled leadership in the automotive display market.
Bosch Group, renowned for its global technology and service supply, selects only 46 suppliers from 11 countries out of approximately 35,000 worldwide, recognizing outstanding performers in raw material, product, and service provision on a biennial basis since 1987.
Over the past decade, LG Display and Bosch have forged a strategic collaboration since 2012, with LG Display showcasing distinctive technical prowess, stringent quality management, and dependable supply capabilities. Notably, the company has successfully integrated automotive OLED displays into premium automotive brands' next-generation projects.
As a global supplier of digital clusters and center fascias to top-tier automotive component makers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), LG Display has consistently maintained its leadership position in the market. The company achieved the highest global market share for five consecutive years from 2018 to 2022, primarily driven by revenue generated by premium automotive displays measuring 10 inches or larger.
LG Display's success is underpinned by its expertise in automotive OLEDs and high-end LCD displays, which have enabled it to secure sales and orders while establishing itself as the industry's global leader.
One of LG Display's groundbreaking achievements was the introduction of the world's first Tandem OLED for automobiles in 2019. This innovation incorporates a two-stack OLED technology, featuring an additional organic emitting layer to deliver brighter screens while ensuring optimal stability and an extended lifespan by efficiently dispersing energy across OLED components.
Looking forward, LG Display is set to mass-produce its second-generation Tandem OLED, further widening the technological gap between itself and competitors by enhancing the efficiency of organic light-emitting components.
The company's unique P-OLED technology integrates innovative Tandem OLED into a flexible plastic substrate, ensuring a slim and lightweight design while retaining unparalleled picture quality unique to OLEDs. P-OLED boasts 60% less power consumption and an 80% lighter weight compared to LCD displays, making it a perfect solution, especially for electric vehicles.
LG Display's competitive edge is bolstered by various products and technologies, including ATO (Advanced Thin OLED) that provides core strength for automotive displays at a more competitive price point, LTPS LCD, known for large-scale implementation and high-resolution rendering, IPS (In-Plane Switching) that significantly enhances viewing angles, and SPM (Switchable Privacy Mode) for controlled viewing angles, ensuring safer driving experiences.
“We are extremely proud to have been recognized as automotive display maker by Bosch. This award acknowledges our endless pursuit of the perfect customer experience, a journey that promotes innovation at every step of the way which enables us to deliver unparalleled technologies, quality, and support to our customers,” said Byeong-koo Kim, Senior Vice President and Head of Auto Business Group at LG Display. “We will continue to strengthen our order-based business’s competitiveness based on our revolutionary technologies, especially P-OLED and LTPS LCD.”
