Hanmi Pharmaceutical and Hanmi Science, the holding company of Hanmi Group, have introduced a multi-use cup to drastically reduce the use of disposable cups at the in-house cafe "The H," which is operated near its headquarters in Songpa-gu, Seoul.
Hanmi Group announced on Aug. 8 that it is conducting an in-house campaign to reduce greenhouse gases and create an eco-friendly culture along with the introduction of multi-use cups. Executives and employees of Hanmi Science, a holding company, are also actively participating in this campaign.
The H is Hanmi Pharmaceutical's in-house cafe run by six baristas consisting of hearing and developmental disabilities, and baristas have been working full-time since 2020 when The H first began.
According to Hanmi Pharmaceutical, 62,334 disposable cups were used at The H last year, with an average of more than 5,000 disposable cups used per month. Changing this to a multi-use cup can save about 1.4 tons of greenhouse gas.
The multi-use cup adopted by Hanmi Pharmaceutical is made of a material that does not detect environmental hormones, and is supplied by a professional company and even managed by cleaning. Executives and employees who used this cup only need to return it to the collection table prepared in the designated space.
An official from Hanmi Pharmaceutical said, "A corporate culture that respects diversity is the foundation of corporate competitiveness and an essential requirement for fulfilling social responsibility."
Meanwhile, Hanmi Science, a holding company of Hanmi Group, manages the working environment of disabled workers through social workers and supports individual counseling and customized education for their stable working lives.
In addition, for smooth communication between disabled and non-disabled employees, campaigns to improve awareness of the disabled, such as sign language education, are also being conducted for executives and employees.
