LG Smart Cottage

LG Electronics (LG) is set to unveil its housing solution, LG Smart Cottage, at IFA 2023.

The Smart Cottage represents a compact, pre-fabricated dwelling that seamlessly integrates LG's cutting-edge heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, as well as its latest array of smart home appliances and services.

Engineered with a strong emphasis on sustainability and in alignment with LG's vision of creating a Better Life for All, the Smart Cottage boasts a two-story, studio-style layout meticulously designed to offer both functionality and space efficiency.

This modular home, despite its modest footprint, encompasses a comprehensive range of appliances and amenities, catering to all conceivable needs. The Smart Cottage can be conveniently transported and positioned at a preferred location, showcasing its adaptability.

A recent study by ReportLinker projects that the global market for prefabricated housing will achieve an estimated valuation of USD 22.9 billion by 2028, with a steady compound annual growth rate of 4.8 percent from 2023 to 2028.

In a bid to minimize its ecological footprint, the replaceable modules of the dwelling are constructed using low-carbon steel materials sourced from POSCO, a renowned South Korean steel corporation.

Among the innovative and high-efficiency features gracing the LG Smart Cottage are the WashTower Compact, QuadWash™ dishwasher, an assortment of integrated kitchen appliances, a water purifier, and the state-of-the-art Therma V™ Monobloc air-to-water heat pump (AWHP). This energy-efficient AWHP not only ensures year-round indoor comfort but also outperforms conventional heating and cooling systems in terms of energy consumption.

Furthermore, the AWHP is adept at furnishing a reliable supply of hot water, thanks to its connection to the 200-liter-capacity Integrated Water Tank (IWT). On the rooftop, a 4-kilowatt (kW) solar panel array interacts seamlessly with the Energy Storage System (ESS), effectively collecting and storing solar energy.

This setup can yield up to 15 kilowatts of electricity per day. Excess energy can either be stored within the ESS for later use or even sold back to the grid. Remarkably, LG's modular dwelling even comes equipped with an integrated electric vehicle (EV) charging station, alleviating the need for homeowners to arrange their own EV charging infrastructure.

Through the ThinQ app, residents can effortlessly regulate each appliance, oversee the entire HVAC setup, and monitor real-time energy storage and consumption patterns. Additionally, LG ThinQ interfaces with the Smart Cottage's security-enhancing Internet of Things (IoT) devices, such as cameras, motion sensors, and smart doorbells, ensuring the safety and peace of mind of its occupants.

IFA 2023 attendees are encouraged to visit LG's exhibit in Hall 18, Messe Berlin, from September 1-5, to explore the LG Smart Cottage and a captivating array of other innovations geared towards enhancing the quality of life.
