Shinhan Bank today announced that it held an event to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its entry into Vietnam at the Intercontinental Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on August 18.
Shinhan became the first Korean financial institution to enter Vietnam by establishing a representative office in 1993, the year after the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and Vietnam, and established a local subsidiary, Shinhan Vietnam Bank, in 2009. Shinhan Vietnam Bank has since acquired Shinhan Vietnam Vina Bank in 2011 and ANZ Bank's retail division in 2017.
Shinhan Vietnam Bank continues to expand its presence in the Vietnamese financial market, opening four more branches this year, and operating 50 branches, the most among foreign banks.
The bank has also become a leading foreign-owned bank in Vietnam, ranking first among foreign-owned banks in key indicators such as total assets and net profit as of 2022.
The 30th anniversary event was attended by customers, partners, and officials from the State Bank of Vietnam who have grown together with Shinhan Vietnam Bank over the past 30 years, and employees expressed their gratitude to customers and Vietnamese society. Shinhan Bank President and CEO Jung Sang-hyuk also attended the event to congratulate employees and express his gratitude to internal and external stakeholders.
Meanwhile, as part of the 30th anniversary celebration, Shinhan Vietnam Bank organized an "online marathon" with customers and employees, and donated the proceeds to renovate the facilities of a school in northern Vietnam and support educational activities.
