LG Electronics (LG) is set to unveil its forward-looking concept of a more eco-conscious lifestyle through the introduction of the "Net-Zero House" at this year's IFA 2023 event.

At the heart of this initiative lies the comprehensive LG Home Energy Platform, a holistic solution for managing household energy consumption, as well as heating and cooling needs. Central components of this platform include the Energy Storage System (ESS) and the Therma V™ R290 Monobloc air-to-water heat pump (AWHP).

The LG Home Energy Platform represents a complete energy management solution designed to promote sustainability within homes. Through the integration of the LG ESS and the LG Therma V AWHP, this platform not only delivers efficient heating capabilities but also offers user-friendly energy management across all stages of energy production, storage, usage, and conservation.

The Therma V by LG ensures year-round indoor comfort while significantly enhancing energy efficiency compared to traditional heating and cooling systems. Aligning with the trend of decarbonization in Europe, the Therma V R290 Monobloc facilitates reduced household carbon emissions.

This is achieved by harnessing heat from the ambient air through the utilization of the R290 refrigerant, known for its remarkably low Global Warming Potential (GWP) of three. Moreover, the system is capable of generating high-temperature water compatible with existing older radiator systems.

Complementing the Therma V, the ESS seamlessly interfaces with LG's AWHP, providing an innovative means of optimizing renewable energy utilization within a household. Moreover, the ESS serves as a reliable backup power source during instances of power outages.

Excess energy generated during daylight hours, when solar energy production peaks, can be stored in the ESS battery and channeled to the AWHP's integrated water tank. This stored energy is then tapped into during the evening, a period of typically higher energy consumption, to supply hot water and power home appliances.

By doing so, energy efficiency and self-sufficiency are enhanced. In cases of power interruptions, the ESS ensures essential functions like heating, refrigeration, and lighting remain operational. Unused energy can be saved for future use or even sold to contracted electricity providers.

Beyond its compatibility with the Therma V, the ESS can seamlessly integrate with a wide array of LG household appliances such as washing machines, refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers, Styler units, and even electric vehicle (EV) chargers.

Visitors to the Net-Zero House exhibit will be able to visualize how the system's stored energy is distributed to these appliances, thereby lightening the load on the electricity grid and trimming monthly power expenses.

What's more, the Home Energy Platform harmonizes with LG ThinQ Energy, an intuitive energy management solution empowering users to oversee smart appliances, manage HVAC systems, and monitor energy storage and consumption via their smartphones, from virtually any location.

“Featuring our innovative energy management solutions, including the Home Energy Platform powered by ThinQ Energy, the Net-Zero House at IFA 2023 highlights LG’s commitment to developing sustainable solutions over HVAC systems as well as home appliances for a better life,” said Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “We will continue to leverage our industry-leading core technologies to create solutions that benefit people and the planet.”

Guests exploring LG's booth (located in Hall 18, Messe Berlin) at IFA 2023 from September 1-5 will have the opportunity to delve into the Net-Zero House experience and gain insights into the company's latest strides toward enhancing everyday living.
