Doosan Enerbility announced on August 31 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Korea Midland Power Co., Ltd. (KOMIPO) to jointly develop next-generation offshore wind power and promote offshore wind power projects.
Under the agreement, the two companies will cooperate across the offshore wind power value chain, including research and development, demonstration, and commercialization of next-generation offshore wind power of 20 MW and above.
In addition, the two companies plan to create a large-scale commercialization complex and jointly enter overseas markets to revitalize the domestic offshore wind ecosystem. Doosan Energility will design, manufacture, and demonstrate next-generation offshore wind power, while KEPCO will provide related technical support and business promotion.
"In order to revitalize the domestic offshore wind ecosystem, it is important to go beyond product development and find business opportunities to realize it," said Chung Yeon-in, President of Doosan Enerbility. "Together with KEPCO, we will do our best to secure the foundation for overseas export growth by becoming globally competitive in technology."
KOMIPO has been building the 100MW Jeju Hallim offshore wind farm with KEPCO, KEPCO Technology, Doosan Enerbility, and Hyundai E&C since 2021. Doosan Enerbility has signed a contract to supply equipment to build and install 18 5.5MW offshore wind turbines at the farm, as well as a long-term maintenance contract.
