KT announced on Sept. 6 that it and Canada's Vector Institute, a world-class artificial intelligence (AI) research institute, discussed cooperation in the field of super-scale AI on Sept. 5 at KT Convergence Technology Center in Seocho-gu, Seoul.
Vector Institute is a world-class AI research organization founded in 2017 with investment from the Canadian province of Ontario and private companies. It was co-founded by Professor Geoffrey Hinton, one of the founders of deep learning and a top authority on AI, and serves as a senior advisor.
The meeting was held as part of a partnership signed by the two companies in September last year for AI R&D and business cooperation. During the meeting, officials from both companies, including Bae Soon-min, head of KT's AI2XL Research Center, and Tony Gaffney, CEO of Vector Institute, finalized a collaboration plan to advance the company's super-sized AI "Mi:dm" technology.
KT and Vector Institute also reviewed plans to conduct joint AI research projects and discussed training and consulting contents aimed at developing B2B businesses and AI models based on super AI.
The two companies are conducting joint research on the latest AI technologies, such as "Prompt Engineering," which creates commands for AI to produce optimal results, and are working together to find the best methodology for applying them to business. Based on this, KT is considering how to utilize the latest AI technologies for various services.
"We are proud to work with companies like KT that are focused on building the largest native language-based AI models," said Tony Gaffney, CEO of Vector Institute. "As the world's leading AI research organization dedicated to the application, adoption, and commercialization of AI, Vector Institute looks forward to working with KT to help them achieve meaningful results in AI."
"KT is currently investing heavily in AI technology and plans to accelerate the digital transformation (DX) of industries through 'Mi:dm'," said Bae Soon-min, Head of AI2XL Research Center at KT Convergence Technology Center. "By collaborating with Vector Institute, we will enhance KT's AI technology capabilities and gain insights into global AI practices to enhance the competitiveness of 'Mi:dm'."
