HJ Shipbuilding and Construction (HJSC) recently announced its successful bid for the Boryeong New Combined Cycle Power Plant No. 1 project, a significant development in the energy sector. The decision was finalized on the 4th of this month.

This construction project is a pivotal component of the initiative aimed at replacing the aging Boryeong Power Plant No. 5, a coal-fired facility, with a modern LNG Combined Cycle Power Plant.

The upcoming construction endeavor is set to bring to life a state-of-the-art 500 MW Combined Cycle Power Plant No. 1, strategically located within the Gojeong National Industrial Complex in Ocheon-myeon, Boryeong, Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea.

This site was made available following the relocation of Boryeong Combined Cycle Power Plant No. 4 to the Incheon Combined Cycle Power Plant No. 3 site in 2013. The esteemed owner of this project is Korea Midland Power Co., Ltd., with the contract value amounting to 186.4 billion KRW (including VAT). The project is slated for completion in June 2026.

Currently, HJSC is actively engaged in other notable projects, including the construction of the New Sejong Combined Cycle Power Plant and the Gangneung Anin Thermal Power Plant. Furthermore, the company recently achieved a significant milestone with the completion of the Yangsan Group Energy Facility Construction in August.

Over the years, HJSC has consistently undertaken power plant construction projects across various locations, such as Yangju, Byeolnae, Chuncheon, and Seocheon. Its substantial portfolio of successful construction projects and cutting-edge technological capabilities played a pivotal role in securing this coveted bid under the comprehensive evaluation tendering system.

In an industry where site quality and safety have become increasingly critical, HJSC has distinguished itself with its exemplary site operation management. Notably, the company boasts an impressive track record of four consecutive years without any significant on-site disasters—a remarkable achievement, particularly for a major construction enterprise.

An official of HJ Shipbuilding and Construction said, “HJ Shipbuilding and Construction will be committed to dedicating its whole capabilities to successfully complete Boryeong New Combined Cycle Power Plant No. 1 construction with the great endeavor for safety and quality management on the basis of its domestic and international experience and knowhow in power plant construction.”
