Merck, a German multinational science and technology company, recently shared its insights on artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and semiconductor industry trends at the ADeKo (Alumni Network of Korea-Germany) Academic Conference. This conference celebrated the 140th anniversary of Korea-Germany relations.

Merck has been using digital solutions to speed up semiconductor innovation and enhance product development, quality, and manufacturing.

In this year, Mr. Steven Eulig, Head of Business Development for Digital Solutions, Merck Electronics, explained about AI and Machine Learning in semiconductor manufacturing and that sustainable digital transformation is required to agilely respond to the rapidly changing semiconductor landscape. Digitalization and data sharing are critical to building systems to maintain semiconductor quality and improve supply chain resilience in the global marketplace."

"AI and machine learning are currently experiencing unprecedented acceleration and creating tremendous value not only for Merck's businesses, but across all industries," said WooKyu Kim, Managing Director of Merck Korea, who invited Mr. Eulig to speak at the conference and added “We look forward to Mr.Eulig's presentation, showcasednew avenues for collaboration in the Korean semiconductor industry."

Smart Data Collaboration emerged as a solution for semiconductor suppliers and customers to handle the vast amount of data they receive from fabs and material suppliers.

This approach transforms this data into valuable insights, aiding in efficiently meeting the rising demand for semiconductors and enhancing product quality.

Smart Data Collaboration can help anticipate and mitigate imbalances in semiconductor supply and demand, influenced by factors like global trade tensions and natural disasters. Trust and collaboration across the value chain are essential for developing optimal and innovative solutions for the industry.

Meanwhile, sustainability is a global challenge that the entire semiconductor industry is striving to solve. Merck is developing various sustainable solutions for microchip manufacturing for the better future. The recently published report, "Investing in a Sustainable Semiconductor Future," outlines corporate initiatives of developing low GWP (global warming potential) material solutions, and reducing waste, investing in renewable energy, and improving energy efficiency at its production sites. The event was held on Tuesday, September 19 at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
