Invest KOREA Wins UN Investment Promotion Award for Climate Change Efforts

On October 16, KOTRA's foreign investment promotion agency, Invest KOREA, won the United Nations Investment Promotion Awards (UNIPA), the world's most prestigious investment promotion award, organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

Since 2002, UNCTAD has presented the UNIPA annually to organizations that have excelled in their investment promotion activities, and this year the activities of 195 organizations were evaluated since March this year, with a focus on investment promotion in the area of energy transition to combat climate change, in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. 

James Zhan, Director of UNCTAD's Investment and Enterprise Division, who organized the award ceremony, announced Invest KOREA as the winner, saying that the organization stood out for its efforts to create a sustainable energy infrastructure that responds to climate change. 

"This award is an international recognition of Korea's efforts to attract investment in high-tech industries in response to the global issue of climate change," said Kim Tae-hyung, CEO of Invest KOREA. "Invest Korea will take the lead in strengthening domestic industrial supply chains and creating new jobs through investment."

In addition to receiving the Investment Promotion Award, Invest KOREA participated in the 8th World Investment Forum organized by UNCTAD in Abu Dhabi, UAE on October 16 and presented on the role of investment promotion agencies in attracting sustainable energy investment to Korea. 

The Forum was attended by more than 7,000 participants from 160 countries, including ministers and vice-ministers from major countries, investment promotion agencies, executives from global companies, international organizations and academia.

Following the Forum, Invest KOREA will host the "Invest KOREA Summit 2023" from November 6-8, the leading national investment promotion IR event. 

The event, which will be held for the 19th time this year, will be held in Busan for the first time since its inception in conjunction with Busan EXPO. More than 300 foreign investors, foreign journalists, diplomatic missions to Korea and foreign-invested enterprises will be invited to promote Korea as an investment base that connects the world by showcasing Korea's high-tech industry excellence and global investment cooperation from a supply chain perspective.
