SK hynix has begun commercialization of "Low Power Double Data Rate 5 Turbo (LPDDR5T)," which achieves 9.6 Gbps (9.6 gigabits per second), the fastest mobile D-RAM available today.
SK hynix recently announced on October 25 that it is the first in the industry to receive certification that LPDDR5T can be applied to the latest Snapdragon® 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform (Snapdragon Mobile Platform) from Qualcomm Technologies (Qualcomm) in the United States.
LPDDR is a D-RAM standard used in mobile products such as smartphones and tablets, and has low-voltage operation characteristics to minimize power consumption. LPDDR5T is the first version developed by SK hynix, and it is a performance upgrade of LPDDR5X, the seventh generation, before the eighth generation LPDDR6 was officially released to the industry.
Shortly after SK hynix completed the development of LPDDR5T in January, it has been working on compatibility verification with its partner company Qualcomm. The two companies have found that both products perform well in smartphones that combine LPDDR5T with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8th Gen mobile platform.
"With performance validation from major mobile application processor (AP) companies, including Qualcomm, a leading global telecommunications chip company, the scope of LPDDR5T applications in mobile devices will rapidly expand," said SK hynix.
The company will offer customers a 16GB (gigabyte) capacity package made by combining LPDDR5T discrete chips. The package has a data throughput rate of 77GB per second, which is equivalent to 15 full-HD movies in one second.
In addition, LPDDR5T operates at 1.01 to 1.12 volts (V), the lowest voltage reference range set by the Joint Electron Devices Engineering Committee (JEDEC).
