LS Cable & System announced on October 30 that it has received the international certification (ISO 21502) for "Turnkey Project Management" from LRQA.
This is the first in the Asian cable industry and the second globally after a European company.
ISO 21502 is awarded by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to evaluate the processes, systems and people for the execution of turnkey projects.
LS Cable & System pursued this certification in order to improve its integrated management of subsea projects, to take its business capabilities to the next level, and to actively respond to the demands of international standards from global clients.
"The overall management capability of submarine cables is important for project execution, as failures can cause disruptions such as large-scale power outages and are not easy to recover," said an official from LS Cable & System. "We are seeing an increasing number of tenders in Europe and North America requiring ISO 21502 certification."
LS Cable & System plans to use the certification to expand turnkey orders in collaboration with LS Marine Solutions, a specialized submarine cable contractor.
LS Cable & System acquired LS Marine Solutions in August to create a value chain of turnkey manufacturing and construction businesses. The two companies have recently been selected as the preferred bidder for the Anma offshore wind farm project in Jeollanam-do, South Korea, which is expected to be worth hundreds of billions of won.
