A joint effort between the Korean Embassy in Indonesia, the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), and the Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI) is set to unfold in Jakarta, Indonesia. Over the course of two days, starting on October 31, the 2023 Korea-Indonesia Medical Roadshow will showcase about 50 promising companies specializing in medical devices, hospital services, and cosmetics. The event is aimed at facilitating Korea's entry into Indonesia by providing top-notch medical services and products.

Since 2018, the Korea-Indonesia Medical Roadshow has been supported by the Korean Embassy, KOTRA, and KHIDI. Their common goal is to support hospitals, medical device manufacturers, and cosmetics companies in their efforts to penetrate the Indonesian market.

This year's "Korea-Indonesia Medical Road Show" has three core components: ▲ The Korea Medical Promotion Association, ▲ The Healthcare and Cosmetics Industry Forum, and ▲ The Export Consultation Conference. In particular, about 50 promising Korean companies in the fields of medical devices, hospital services and cosmetics will participate in the export consultation meetings. More than 300 consultations will be held with Indonesian hospitals and companies.

Indonesia has the world's fourth-largest population of about 270 million people. However, it faces a shortage of medical professionals and infrastructure. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Indonesia has only seven medical professionals for every 10,000 people, a stark contrast to figures such as 9 in Thailand, 41 in Australia and 25 in Korea.

In response, the Indonesian government has outlined plans to revamp its healthcare and medical sector, including allowing foreign medical personnel to work in the country. While detailed regulations and enforcement ordinances are still needed for the expansion of foreign medical activities, a surge in foreign medical personnel entering Indonesia is expected.

Indonesian Ambassador Lee Sang-deok emphasized the importance of Indonesia's 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and its role as the only G20 member in Southeast Asia. He highlighted the ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation between the Korean and Indonesian governments in order to raise Indonesia's healthcare standards to a global level.

Cha, Soon-do, President of KHIDI positioned the event as a significant step forward following the President's visit in September, which coincided with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Indonesia. The goal is for the Korea-Indonesia Medical Road Show to serve as a successful gateway for market entry into Indonesia.

President & CEO of KOTRA YU Jeoung Yeol pledged continued cooperation with the Embassy and the Korea Health Industry Promotion Agency beyond this year's medical road show. He expressed his commitment to a variety of support initiatives to ensure the successful introduction of Korea's high-quality medical services and equipment to the Indonesian market.

Event Schedule:

On Tuesday, October 3, there will be the opening ceremony and the Korea Medical Promotion Association Healthcare/Cosmetics Industry Forum. In addition, there will be 1:1 business meetings for medical devices and cosmetics, and 1:1 business meetings for medical institutions and foreign patient attraction companies.

On Wednesday, November 1, there will be another round of 1:1 business meetings involving medical institutions, host companies, medical devices and cosmetics.

Place: InterContinental Jakarta Phondog Hotel.
