At the cutting-edge MIRA Technology Institute (MTI), students and apprentices are celebrating the arrival of a brand-new electric truck that promises to enhance their understanding of the latest electric vehicle technology. This 7.5-tonne Tevva battery electric truck is now stationed at MTI's state-of-the-art workshops, readily accessible to every student, offering hands-on experience with the technology in action.

MTI has developed a comprehensive course series aimed at equipping students with crucial skills in the automotive sector as part of the electric vehicle revolution. The institute's curriculum empowers students to develop an in-depth understanding of electric and hybrid vehicles, allowing them to inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot various systems and components.

Lisa Bingley, the Operations Director at MTI, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "It was a fantastic moment to witness the arrival of our new Tevva truck in the workshop today. We opted for a Tevva vehicle due to the brand's pivotal role in driving the rapid transition towards decarbonization and eco-friendly freight. The Tevva truck is powered by two electric traction motors that use no rare earth materials. It features a regenerative braking system that captures kinetic energy to extend the vehicle's range. Additionally, it boasts an innovative high-voltage power distribution system and proprietary embedded software. Having this truck in our workshop will significantly enhance students' understanding and learning experience of EV technology."

Ken Scott, the Managing Director of Tevva, highlighted the importance of not only new technology but also skilled individuals in the decarbonization of the trucking and transportation industry. He noted, "We need people with the skills and knowledge of how battery-electric and hydrogen-electric powertrains work. The MTI is doing an excellent job of addressing the skills gap and training a new generation of engineers and technicians. Tevva is delighted to be part of this vital endeavor."

MTI was established to support the automotive sector by focusing on emerging technology areas, including connected and autonomous vehicles, and electric cars. The institute's unique Skills Escalator is the first of its kind in the UK, allowing students and delegates to progress seamlessly through the levels within the same institution.

Since its inception, MTI has welcomed over 42,500 students and delegates, including more than 3,100 pursuing accredited qualifications ranging from a Level 1 Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) certificate to Masters' degrees, as well as over 850 apprenticeships at all levels. Over 17,100 automotive professionals have participated in professional development activities.

Marion Plant, OBE FCGI, Chair of the MTI Operations Board, and Principal and Chief Executive of North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College, remarked, "The arrival of the Tevva truck marks a significant milestone in our ability to illustrate the impact of the very latest technology used within the logistics sector. We are thrilled to provide MTI with this cutting-edge equipment to inspire our students and fuel their enthusiasm for their future career progression."

MIRA Technology Institute is a collaborative involving North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College, HORIBA MIRA, Coventry University, Loughborough University, and the University of Leicester. It offers a specialized curriculum to meet the growing demand for automotive expertise in the UK, with a strong emphasis on emerging technologies like electrification and autonomous vehicles. The institute was established with a £9.5 million investment from the Government's Local Growth Fund through the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP).
