LG Display, a renowned leader in display technology, announces the certification of its third-generation OLED TV panels featuring META Technology by global certification organizations, reaffirming its commitment to prioritizing eye comfort.
UL Solutions, a global authority in applied safety science, conducted tests on LG Display's third-generation OLED TV panels to evaluate blue light wavelengths, known to contribute to eye fatigue and sleep disturbances.
LG Display's advanced OLED panel scored an exceptional 36%, the lowest among all existing TV panels, and received a prestigious Platinum rating along with the UL Mark for its minimal blue light emissions. In contrast, conventional LCD TVs emit blue light wavelengths at levels ranging from 70 to 80%.
The key differentiator is that LG Display's OLED TV panels do not require a backlight unit. Instead, they employ an innovative self-emissive structure, allowing each pixel to emit light individually, effectively reducing blue light wavelengths.
In a bid to provide consumers with more reliable information, UL Solutions introduced stricter criteria for measuring blue light emissions this year, categorizing program ratings as Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. The highest rating, Platinum, is awarded to display products with blue light emissions below 40% of the total blue light wavelength emissions.
Furthermore, LG Display's third-generation OLED TV panel has earned the 'Reflection-Free' certification from Intertek, a prominent Total Quality Assurance provider serving global industries. This certification is a result of the panel's exceptional resistance to reflections from nearby objects, which can otherwise degrade color accuracy and overall image quality, leading to eye fatigue. Through Intertek's testing, the third-generation OLED TV panel achieved an industry-leading reflection ratio of less than 1%.
Before receiving these recent certifications, LG Display's OLED TV panels had already gained recognition for their focus on eye comfort. They were the world's first TV displays to receive the Eyesafe® certification, a joint effort between the U.S. eye safety organization Eyesafe Inc. and TÜV Rheinland. This certification acknowledged the panels for their remarkably low blue light emissions and flicker-free performance.
LG Display's latest META Technology introduces the 'Micro Lens Array (MLA)' to optimize light emission from the OLED panel and a brightness-enhancing algorithm called 'META Booster.' These enhancements result in the industry's highest peak brightness of 2,100 nits and a 22% improvement in energy efficiency when compared to existing OLED TVs operating at the same brightness level.
“These latest certifications once again prove that LG Display’s third-generation OLED TV panels with META Technology not only offer outstanding image quality, but also prioritize eye comfort in providing customers with a user-friendly display,” said Min-kyu Jin, Head of Marketing Operations Division at LG Display.
