Zug, Switzerland — Aragon is ushering in a new era of multichain governance on its OSx platform by seamlessly incorporating zkSync and LayerZero. This strategic integration empowers users to govern assets and permissions across various EVM chains, all from a single mainnet DAO.

The essence of this groundbreaking development lies in utilizing LayerZero for cross-chain messaging and the zkSync Era rollup for secure and cost-effective voting. Aragon's OSx plugin, currently undergoing testing, introduces a paradigm shift by allowing DAOs to manage assets and permissions across EVM chains through a singular mainnet DAO smart contract. This plugin, compatible with custom DAOs on Aragon OSx, is poised for a user-friendly launch on the no-code Aragon App in 2024.

Carlos Juarez, Aragon's Chief Technology Officer, emphasized the significance of this move in the context of Ethereum's scalability journey. He stated, "It's clear now that Ethereum is scaling through rollups, but we've left behind the piece about connecting and managing accounts across them. By working on multichain governance, we're enabling Ethereum to scale by helping distribute liquidity and offloading some transactions to L2s, while protocols will still be able to live on mainnet."

Multichain DAO governance, as envisioned by Aragon, unfolds in a structured process:

Create a custom census across chains: Utilize LayerZero's Omnichain Fungible Token (OFT) standard to create a custom census using governance tokens across multiple chains.

Cast votes on zkSync at a fraction of the cost: Members can cast votes, settling on zkSync at a fraction of the cost once the census has been established.

Execute actions across chains simultaneously: Following the vote, users can leverage the Aragon OSx permission management system to execute the proposed action on multiple chains simultaneously from the mainnet DAO.

This innovative multichain governance design relies heavily on Aragon OSx's modular permission management system. This system simplifies the process of granting and revoking permissions to external contracts from a DAO contract, enabling seamless execution of actions on any chain simultaneously. The Aragon OSx plugin, a key enabler of this functionality, utilizes LayerZero's Omnichain Fungible Token Standard (OFT) to extend governance token capabilities. This ensures that token holders can cast votes on zkSync, regardless of the chain of origin, further enhancing flexibility and participation.

Carlos Juarez expressed his enthusiasm for the Aragon OSx plugin's launch, stating, "With the launch of the Aragon OSx plugin, DAOs can scale their activities across chains, increasing community participation while effectively managing costs and maintaining security.
