South Korean food company Daesang will participate in Food Ingredients Europe 2023 (FiE 2023) in Frankfurt, Germany from November 28 to 30, accelerating the global expansion of its ingredients business.

FiE is Europe's largest food and food ingredient trade fair held every two years, with an average of more than 1000 global companies and 90 countries participating each year, and more than 11,000 professional buyers visiting. At FiE 2023, Daesang will exhibit a variety of specialty ingredients, including allulose and natural flavoring ingredients.

The company will first introduce allulose, which has almost no calories but a sweetness similar to sugar. Allulose is a rare sugar found in nature and has been consumed by humans since ancient times in foods such as figs and raisins.

In May, Daesang developed high-efficiency production technology for allulose and completed a dedicated production facility, establishing the largest allulose production base in Korea. In line with this, the strategy is to promote the excellence of Daesang Allulose and expand overseas sales.

In addition, Daesang will introduce "NAMINO UH" and "NAMINO LH," natural seasoning ingredients that meet European food trends such as clean label and vegan, and microalgae-based vegetable proteins GoldRella and White Chlorella. The company will also host tasting events featuring each ingredient.

Natural seasoning ingredients NAMINO UH and NAMINO LH are broader than the typical seasonings that are added in small amounts at the end of the cooking process to add flavor to most processed foods. They can be used in soups, sauces, dressings, and seasonings.

Microalgae-based plant proteins GoldRella and White Chlorella are microalgae strain powders developed through Daesang's proprietary cultivation technology and are used in vegan cheeses, protein bars, dietary supplements, and high-protein cookies. The two proteins are categorized as gluten free products and have also obtained vegan certification.

"As the demand for specialty ingredients is expected to continue to expand, we will accelerate our expansion into global markets such as Europe," said Han Jae-chun, head of the Materials BU at Daesang. "We will lead the global ingredients market with our know-how, technology, and differentiated quality that we have built up since 1956."

Meanwhile, last month, the company confirmed its global influence in the U.S. market by participating in the "2023 Supply Side West (SSW)," the largest health functional food and food ingredient expo in North America, held in Las Vegas. More than 1,100 exhibitors from 75 countries participated in the two-day event from October 25th to 26th, attracting a total of 18,000 visitors.
