Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) announced on Nov. 27 that it has successfully completed the second invitational training program for Vietnamese railway employees on "Capacity Building for Safety Management (Track) of Vietnamese Railways".
The training, which was held in March, is part of an Official Development Assistance (ODA) project to support the safety of Vietnam's railway tracks by utilizing maintenance technologies and equipment researched and developed by KORAIL.
The training was held for 10 days from November 18 to 27, and 15 railway officials, including executives from the Vietnam Railway Corporation, participated.
The Vietnamese trainees learned about Korail's railway operation know-how through special lectures on railway operation, safety management, and facility maintenance, test rides on the KTX, and visits to Seoul Station and the Seoul Metropolitan Area Railway Vehicle Maintenance Unit.
In particular, the trainees showed great interest in Korea's high-speed rail development process, 20 years of operation performance and maintenance system as the Vietnamese government is currently promoting the North-South high-speed rail project to revitalize railways.
Earlier, at the end of last month, Vietnam's Deputy Minister of Transportation visited KORAIL and others to discuss the development of high-speed rail and strengthen cooperation.
KORAIL and Vietnam Railways plan to organize two more invitational trainings next year.
Le Bang An, Director of the Vietnam Railway Corporation, said, "We hope that the continuous exchanges between the two countries, including the two trainings this year, will serve as a springboard for us to work together on high-speed rail projects."
Han Moon-hee, President of KORAIL, said, "We will continue to work together to ensure that Korea Railways can participate in the high-speed rail project in Vietnam."
